Guide Steps

Part 1: Create a Windows 8.1 Recovery Drive of My Surface

In case something goes wrong during the upgrade, or the Windows 10 is not as good as you think on your Surface, and you think the Windows 8.1 is the better for your Surface. With the Windows 8.1 recovery drive, you can revert back to the Windows 8.1 system at any time. To create a USB recovery drive on your Surface, you need to prepare a USB that has enough available storage space for all the recovery data. (For Surface 3 and Surface Pro, USB should be at least 16 GB.)

Part 2: Backup My Data and Sync the OneDrive on My Surface

If something goes wrong after upgrade to Windows 10, and need to wipe my surface, all off my data will sync back down to my Surface from the cloud automatically. I back up my data (pictures, documents, videos, etc…) and sync the pictures, videos, and other documents to my OneDrive.
